. [No affiliated union is allowed to alter the rules of the gamo without the consent of the New Zealand llugby Union, but this alteration, does not come within that provision, for the book of laws' specifics- only that the! gamo shall be played in spells of equal time. There is nothing to say directly 'that the spells shall be limited to two, though in, a. portion of the rules referenoe is made to "half-time." The suggestion that'there should be four spalls, was one" of tho many drawn up last year, for .the im.provomcnt <jf the game and forwarded to :tho New Zealand Union for consideration. It is ' stated. that, many, yeans back, this methodJ'was" preyiously in vogue in Otago.] TE PUKE V.
