The barqne Canterbury, from Etca, a small port on the Peruvian/coast, was discharging ballast here, whon'it was discovered that tho material contained human skulk, and many leg-bones, and other bones. ' The captain'Btates that he had great difficulty in obtaining ballast in. Peru, and had to pay Bb. 9d. a'ton for it. He noticed that it contained bones, but thought they wore animal bones until he came to discharge them. ' ■ It is supposed that the ballast waa taken from the site of an ancient Peruvian town.
