.s'■ ?HH TIUGBY <GRWE, ' EEFEREES' ASSOCIATIOK. A mesting of the Referees' Association wat 'bold in t|io Y.M.C.A. Eooms last evening, Mr. H. Card presiding over a gathering of about ,30 members. The sub-committee appointed to take evi. denco in tho caso of a referee ordering a Victoria College, player off the field,by mistake during tho course of the Victoria Collcge-Z'ol-Jill matoh (played at Miramar on. May 22) brought down its report. Tlio referee- admitted that he had ordered the player off by mistake. N In giving his decision he said, " Off the flold, free kick," and pointed at the player at the same time. What ho meant to 6ay was: "Off. side, fri-o kick." He did not know until aftei the game- that the player was off tho field, f lie .player ordei-ed off stated that tho incident occurred from a scrnra. Ho was in tho act of tackling a player when ho slipped, nnd the referee blew his whistle, and ordered him off the field. He v;ae under the impression fliat he had been ordered off for alleged tripping, • bnt he had no recollection of having trropea. Ho did not ask tho referee why. he was ordered off until aft-er tho game, whon the referee said that it had N been a mistake The evidence of several other witnesses was also taken. Aiter some discussion,, it was decided that tho association considered that the referee made arr ' error in not reporting the player in questkm to the union, and that the secretary write to the player and tho Hugby Union to tho abovo. Sororal matte-re of routine business were also ■ aealt with, and a discussion on "points of the game ensued. One interesting qn*stion raised was whether a refereo was justified in stopping a _gamo beforo time becanse of the bad light, a referee having reported that ho closed a game five minutes before time lnet Saturday, because he could not see. the ball. The secretary stated that a ruling to tho effect that the referee had no power to stop a gamo before tirao becane* of the bad light had been gfrxm some time' ego by the Woßingtfln Engby Union. The referee who had laiecd the rregstion was adviwd to-report the matter to fh« union,, and allow them, to tako what aetioa they may deem fit. ■ ENGAGEMENTS FOE.
