Manghan Barnetfs ' "social reqnesP programme for..Saturday evening's recital was an admirable series of six numbers, which were listened. to -with manifest appreciation by a fairly large audience The organist opened with tho epiritod "March in D," an attractive arrangeraent' in .march , time of two'themes from Mendolssbhii's., well-known ."Cappriccio Brillinnte" for .the piano and orchestra, itollins's, "Spring- Song," and a "Serenade" of Piemo's, were .two charming numbers, admirably treated by'the organist, whoso masterly arrangement of the stops prodnced- some- exquisite tone colours. A eijiundid number ,was tho great"Prelude and i'uguo- in C Minor" (Bach), which provides tho fullest scope for. tho magnificent resources of the grand organ. The brilliant' pretude 'givee' place lo a majestic fugue, wherein the tone increases nntili with a tremendous fortissimo, tho subject is taken up 1)y the pedals. 1 This composition received a very'fine interpretation. In striking contrast to this 'number was Chopin's beautiful "Nocturne in-Q Minor." which followed, and the programme' concluded with a brilliant rendition of a fantasia on Gounod's immensely popular opera "Paust," an item which was received with demonstrations of appreciation by the audience.; , .
