The Magistrate's Court! at its recent sitting, had before it an action brought by Vf. J. Culver, Inspector of. Awards, against Georgo Green, Jkixmiller. Tho ground of tho action was stated to bo that accused employed a paddocker on Good Friday and Easter Monday at the ordinary rates, instead of tho overtime rates required by the award. There was a further charge against the samo for employing a rouseabqut at 15s. por week, instead of tho award rato., Tho accused wrote admitting the breaches, and the Magistrate imposed a fine of £2, on each charge, with ss. costs.

At tlio same sittings of tho Court, two of our local fishermen obtained a verdict against A, Almond, of Wellington, for £16 15s. 6J. and costs amounting to £7 195., for Ash supplied, which defendant alleged arrived in bad condition. As it was shown on hi& own evidence that defendant had not tnken prompt delivery of tho fish on arrival, the Magistrate gave judgment for claimants. At a mooting of tho Manawatu No-Liconso Council, held at Rongotea on Wednesday last,' it was decided to appoint an organiser fov the electorate. It was thought by somo of the delegates that the interests of tho Noliicetiso movement would bo better served by leaving the appointment.over till thc.kwt iiino or six months previous to the'poll. On tho other hand it was contended , that, owinf» jto tho size .' and • peculiarities ot I the constituency, a nioro comprohensire eohemo of organisation wae necessary than could bo accomplished. within the tinio stated. The latter opinion being supported by a majority present, Mr. \V.. Ritohio, M.A.—tho former organiser—waa appointed, and a committeo was set up to bring forward a schomo of operations to bo presonted at the meeting to bo held in tho beginning of July.

The Wanganui Education Board has decided to furnish tho local school with an up-to-date cooking plant. The School Committee some time ago wrote asking that something of the kind Ehoald bo established at Foxton, and the board have granted tho request. This will prove a great advantage to T>he girls attending the. school, and, an a comp*.tenfc special instructrtss will be appointed, great'good is likely to result. Spoaking of school jnatters reminds one of tho fact tliat the ground in which tho fino school stands are the least artistic or picturesque in the Dominion. Thoro has been no attempt to make the ground attractive, and its baro state is not oreditablo te anyono connected with the school. With a littlo direction tlio scholars could convert the whole plnce into a "thing of beauty aiid a joy for over." A deal of comment has been made hero concerning tbo.appearance of- thb gTonnd, but nothing has been done. . i .
