SCHOOLMASTERS AND CHURCH TEACHINGS.
■ Sir,—.''Veritas" has raised a very important question. .Oar national education is supposed to be "secular"; but it is such in tho primary schools, alone. The State has rightly determiriod that it has no right to give religious teaching in the primary schools; then why should tho secondary schools have distinct and opposite treatment p If it be unfair and unchristian to give religious teaching, say, up to tho ago of 15, what makes it. right above tho age of 15? Clearly the. behaviour of the Stato is grossly, illogical and contradictory. Consistency, alone, demands that what is good for the primary school is • , also equally good for the secondary school. As to State-aided boarding schools, tho aid, in equity, should bo made conditional on the abolition of all religion's touching whatsoever. "Veritas'" moral difficulty is one of these evils inseparable from'religious teaching in State-controlled or State-aided schools, and is neither fair to him' rior to the religion ho is compelled to teach.—l am, etc., ... , • T. A. WILLIAMS, / Baptist Minister. Potone, Juno 10.
