TRADES COUNCIL CONFERENCE.
ELECTION OF WELLINGTON DELEGATES.
The election of delegates to tho New Zealand Trades Councils Conference, to be held shortly was the business before Trades Council at ■its meeting on-Thursday. A,report of the moet-' ms'states that 18 candidates' oli'ered themselves for the position of council's delcgito to the annual conference. Tho election wns carried out on the absolute .nirjority principle. There were six ballots beiuro the election was completed. Fifty votes were cast in tho'first,ballot. Two were informal. The resnlt showed that Messrs. W. Noot, D. M'Laren, and E. J' Carey wore the enly candidates who received an absolute_ majority. They wero declared elected. Fifteen delegates went to tho second poll, but none of them received the required majority. It was decided to discard from tho ballot paper all those who failed to reach double figures. This left the following six candidates m the ballot : -Meesrs. Brown AH Cooper, Nanghton, Youiir, Reardon, and Robinson. There were still four conference delegates wanted. Ihe election resulted in'the return of Messrs. Young and Robinson. Fortv-three votes were cast in the fourth ballot.' Mr Browne a one received an absolute hiajoritv and was e ected. Tho fifth time of asking put Mr. .Reardon out of-the runnii>e; '. jfessrs Nmighton amTEobinson fought out the-final poll. Hγ. Robinson scored 20 votes , Mr Naughton 13. As declared by tho president, thi following aro the seven chosen delegates ■.- Messrs. Moot, M'Laren,- Carey, Cooper, Young Browne, and Robinson. The meeting adjourned at a-late hour.. '. . . ■
