A NEW SCALE. A new scale of telephone charges came into operation yosterday by Order-in-Council, gazetted, The annual charges for any telephone instrument connected with a Government exchange which: is open continuously are as follow:—Business establishments, £7';' private residences, £5; or .business establishments and private residences if so agreed, each, £6. At exchanges which are not open continuously, the'charge'is a uniform £5. The entrance fee of £1 is additional in each case. _,■..• • Hospitals or charitable institutions may, at the option of the Minister for Telegraphs, be connected with a telephone exchange at half therates or charges (other than the entrance fee), but the. institutions must pay the whole cost of any now lines that are required.
