The Finance and Property Committee reported that it had.been waited on by a.'deputation :of Wadestown ratepayers, who had asked that the wholo of the Highland Park Estate and, Goldie's. Brae should, be included;in the speoial rating. area for the Wadestown . train-, way when tlie. proceedings "are being taken .'afreah;. also that ,the 'tramway bo taken through Park Street instead- of' tho route adopted by the : council, /via 'Saunders -Lane. The committee recommended. that the. first request be acceded, to, but that the council adhered to-their'previous decision. to - take tho tramway, via Saunders Lane. " Councillors discussed the report »t considerable length, and it was resolved to refer the report; back, to the ! committee with the instruction should consult with three residents -of Wadestown .and one of Goldie's Brae before bringing down an amended^report. ' ;Tho Tramways Committee recommended that the decision, of the committee arrived at. some time ago to allow concession tickets only to those teachers at the Training College ,who are receiving a salary orvallowanco, of ..under, .£25 r'por.-. annum: bo reaffirmed; that,: the. trial be instituted of having "through" cars'/on all city sections' at 5 o'clock, with a minimum fare, for a period of two:months; that the claim of Mr. Amos••' in connection with; his,-.'patent. trolly; hoads and car-protector, be not . entertained. .The committee also.reported that they. had.ro-, ceived a confidential report from the electrical icngineor intimating. [ that a' very considerable ''saying'■■'will result in the adoption'of his recommendations regarding the tramway service, and ".recommended the. counoil- .to..give effect'.to his. recommendations. :.■::-;;; 'Councillors, protested] against: being asked ■ to vote upon■; a confidential report,-tho contents of which- they,\woro not "aware of, and the > Mayor,.":beforo'.the. report-was .'adopted, .ex-' plained., that (the electrical .engineer had re-: ported that two or three officials were not doing their work.
