BOWLS.

o — THORNDON CLUB'S ANNUAL REPORT. The directors of tho Thorndon Bowling Club, in. their annual report, state, that tho subscriptions and'entrance fees show a'substantial increase. . The finishing-oif of the ; new' green and additions to the pavilion are re-, sponsible. for X 164 Os. lCd. and JJ2IS Us. These amounts necessitated tho further loan of j;190 and; increaso in tho bank overdraft. Tho new green, which afforded. accommodation for sixteen rinks on tho opening day, has proved to be a decidcd acquisition to the club.'Tho old green stood tho wear and tear of the season remarkably well, and, although it was kept'open until May 24, it presented throughout a highly'satisfactory appearance. Now, however, that the club has a new and bigger'grcen available for play, it is reasonable to suggest that , the incomJ ing-board will fefll citlled upon to consider the adyisableness of relerelling the'old green and sowing it afresh. Record entries for club competitions . (three , hundred) were received, and all matches were keenly contested. The local centre competitions were all contested in turn and tho Gisborno Trophy, Edwin Feathers] Hill Pins, .and Junior, Stars were successfully competed for. Tho club was represented at the Northern . Bowling Association's Champion Fours tournament at Napier. The membership of the club shows a steady increase. At the commencement ;of the season the number on the , roll was 120; 39 new niemberi were elected, and the year closed with a membership of 150. It is with extreme regret that thi directors hare to record the death ef Mr, James Barry, who had been associated with tho management of the club since its earliest days, as president, dirccUr, und member of the Green Committee; he also did valuable service as honorary clerk of the works while the new pavilion was. being erected. In accordance with clause 58 nf. the articles of association, all tin directors—Messrs. J. C.. Al'K»rrnw, R. A\". Shallcrass, R. J. Collins, A. E, Exic.r, ,T.E. Leighton, G. T. Mason,- and F. K. Seem-' retire,. and, with.' the exception ,of; Mossrs. 'MlCerrow and Shallcrnss,; aro eligible for reelection..
