. TO-NIGHT'S COMPETITIONS. A meeting of tho Wellington Boxing As« " Bociation was held in Arrait's Uoouis List evening. Thoro wore present: Mr. R. W. M'Villy (in tho chaii'), Dr. M'Lean, Messrs. Bridge, Smitli, Platts,' T. Taylor, Laurenson, Sampson, P. Taylor, Day, Lamg, and W. Cqffey (hon. sec.).. ' , A number of minor details in connection with the competitions which open to-night wero arranged, the secretary stating that everything was nowi in order for tho gather- ' ings, which' should iprovo to be of great interest. .■-.'.■■ It was decided that Mr. Nelson's medal should bo nwßTded to the competitor giving tho most scientific exhibition during the contests. Dr. M'Lean, and Messrs. 1 ,, . W. Grovillo and H. Hosenborg were appointed to judge. x The Manawatu Association notified that Messrs. 'Watohorn and Shields would be unablo to compete ct the championship meeting. Tho former has not had time to train, and tho latter can uot {jet lcavp. Havill would be the only representative of tho association. • • ' . ,' Tho secretary of the New Plymouth Association wrote stating that his association was asking tho Now Zealand Conncil that the i whole of Taranaki should como under tho control of tho association,'the name of which should then bo altered to the Tarnnaki Boxiiiß Association.' Such a move, it was urged, would give fresh life to tho sport, which was languishing under tho control of- the small local associations. It was stated by tile secretary that nothing definite could b'c dono in the nbovo connection nntil the council had • decided tin tho question of the iibolition or otherwise of centre government. The secretary of tho Marlboro\iph Association wrote slating fcho position of his association, which had-had a run of ill-luck, but was now. on the lu'gh way to prosperity again. . .. > .
Record entries have been received for tho tournament, which is to commence at tho Town Hall this evening. The entrants hail from nil parts of tho'district, and as. (.hey a.re knowii to include- several clever boxers, and promising colts, a good evening's sport can be safely anticioatolU
