DELIRIUM TREMENS CASES.
POSITION OF THE FEVER -WARD;
_The chairman of the Wellington Hospital Trustees (the Hon.,C.M..Luke) reported at yesterday's meeting of the board that in reference to the presence of delirium tremens cases in tho hospital, and the position regarding the fever ward, ho had had a conferoncowithDr.Valintine, Inspector-General of Hospitals,-and Dr. .Frengloy, District Health Officer, and had gone into the wholo matter. He had ascertained that '• notices had been-sent to tho various local bodies interested to arrange the' apportionment of the cost of tho fever ward. Two local bodies had taken exception to being included, and some-little adjustment might bo necessary. Dr. Frengley assured him that no time would bo lost in having the new ward under way. Thero were not so many fever cases - as a year ago, but they had to bo provided for, not only to ensure.better conditions for recovery, but for tho benofit of tho nursing staff. ;; " ■/ ; . In reference to delirium tremens cases, Dr. Valintino informed Mr. Liilc'o that it was the. intention that special provision should bovmado for them. Ho aareed that a general'hospital was not the proper place for such .cases, v The trustees had had extreme cases of delirium tremens to deal with, who /caused a good deal of disturbance, and not only retarded tho recovery of patients, but also threatened to undo a groat deal of tho .'curative work that had been dono. ; Tho Government' was willing to build a ward-for tho purposo of dealing with these cases, and arrangements might bo mado for the police to supply attendants to look after them.
