The bright sunny safe days of summer and mid-autumn have departed, ond-there'is no rolying on tho weather, for outdoor pleasure, except to. watch ''mudded oaf" (of Kipling) at his winter sport. The ohief attractions in town will be the representative Rugby football matdh between Wellington and .'Wftnganui to be played at the Athletic Park at 3 p.m. They are two strong sides, and n good fast game is .anticipated. The wholesale and 'retail drapers will furnish a "curtain-raiser." Hockey is progressing lustily in : Wellington. Taking the number of both sexes'that play the game, it is a dangerous rival to Rugby, though hardly so popular speotatulariy. To-morrow morning at the Basin Reserve the Wednesday Manawatu team will meet Wellington, and at 2 pjn. the Wellington Saturday representatives will meet those of Manawatu at Day's-Bay. ,:' Followers of. the turf will have the ohoioc of .a race meeting at Otaki and the Miranuu ' Pony and Galloway Club's meeting at Mlrfr mar Park.
