.SPLENDID ATTENDANCE. RESULTS OF'TWO CONFERENCES.. (BY TELEGRAPH—SOCIAL Co'aKESPOXDENT.) __ . ; :■'■ . . Auckland, May 27. llio winter show being held here has proved an immense attraction'. Tho show held two years ago.scarcely paid expenses, but, every day this week, the buildings havo been packed,, and the attendance shows no sign of falling off. Including country mombers' tickets, attendants' passes, and door sales, the attendance has been fully nine thousand for overy day so far. Insuring Ccndomned Stock. ■ ■'A.conforonco. of graziers was held in connection with the. show to consider a proposal ; for the insurance of condemned stock, the 'butchers and the graziers contributing on an equal; basis. The proposal was that buyer and sollei; Bhould each pay 4d.'per head oh' all fat bullocks, 7U. per hoad on heifors, and l« r ; on old cows and steers., It was also proposed that there should be a. board to administer tho fund consisting of two persons nominated by tho-graziers and tiro by tho butchers. Mr. Harray contended'that tho prkoa paid by the •consumer for beef were very different from thoso paid by tho butchers to the grazier.' Between the two there was a very wido margin indeed. • Mr. - Hamilton urged that tho proposal for tho selling to insure tho buyer was an unheardof thing. ' '■■ . Mr. J3. Allen took up the position that butchers were it present afraid to bid freely owing to tho risk. If tho graziers agreed to the priuciplo they would got their monoy back. -* ■_.'.. . It was ultimately'decided) on Mr. Allen's motion: "That tho-meeting agrees with tho proposals of tho : Butchers' Association, and . rec'oihmonds graziers and farmers in Auckland to promote the scheme for the insurance of cattle." of soiling livo stock by weight, and Mr. Harray seconded the proposal. Tho butchers' representatives said that they could not pledge their association, to anything, but, personally, they did not'favour a system of selling by weight. _ Tho motion was carried unanimously. . Federation of A. and P. Soclatlcs. A conforonce of delegates from all tho agricultural and pastoral societies in tho province has also boon held to consider a federation proposal. Tho proposed affiliation was put forward on tho ground that it would mean ono powerful governing body, which would look *fter the common interests of the agricultural and pastoral societies... The- secretary of the Auckland Association explained that thero had previously been an annual conference of tho agricultural and pastoral associations, ahd.it had dono good work. It had been dropped upon tho formation of the Farmers' TJnion. If tho proposal woro adopted, the Auckland Association was' prepared to do everything in its power to assist tho movement. Other speakers supported tho suggested affiliation, and, on the motion of Mr. E. D. O'Rorko, it was resolved: "That all tho agricultural and pastoral' associations in Auckland province ho affiliated j and that this meeting appoint a committee to arrange tho details."
