Mr. Alexander Kenneth Muclachlan, of New Zealand, was "capped" at Edinburgh University on .Graduation-.Say, receiving the degree:i of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. Mr. J. A. Tottinger, of Gisborne, has passed tho examination for tho dogreo of F.K.C.S., Edinburgh. He will proceed shortly to the Continent, and spend some time in study in Berlin and Vienna. ■ ' ' ■ Miss Jessie. Chetham-Strodo, third daughter of the lato Edward Chetham-Strode, bamster-at-law, of Dunedin, and of Mrs. Moody-Ward, of Southill, Cavershain, Oxon, is to be married in June to Mr. Hargrave Tindal Raleigh Curtis-Raleigh, Royal Berkshire Regiment. The High Commissioner of New Zealand, the Hon. nail-Jones, with the Chinese Minister and others, was entertained on April 5/ at the annual dinner of the ' Pegasus"' Club! Mr. Butcher, K.C., proposed the health of the High Commissioner,' and referred 'to the great pat-riotism-shown by the daughter country now as at tho time of the South-African War. In the March number of "Man," the journal devoted to anthropology, Mr. Edge Partington illustrates and describes a collection of wooden •chests in which aro kept the remains of deceased chiefs, These objects are very rare, no specimen being in existence in England, so far as is .known. The collection of which Mr. Partington writes belongs to Mrl' Alexander Turnbull, of Wellington, New Zealand,' 'Mrs. Pember Reeves, the wife of the ex-High Commissioner for New Zealand, will bo a candidate for the London County Council at tho next elections. Mrs. Reeves is a - prominent Fabian Socialist, and has been a member of the council of tho Fabian Society for some years. She is a practised speaker,.and on maiy platforms in-this country has advocated tho enfranchisement: ;of • women and the endowment of motherhood. /'.../ Messrs. A. H. Court and . G.; F. . Court, of Auckland, are here on a business trip for their, firm, John Court, Limited, of which Mr. A. H. Court is one of the.'directors. Thoy will stay about three months altogether, buying for the firm, and will be visiting the manufacturing centre} in Great Britain and. on the Continent during that time. They.came by the Oroya, landed at Marseilles, and; spent two days there and: threo days in Paris. They will return via America, taking in Quebec, New York, tho Falls,, and the Great Lakes, and hope to be back in Auckland by'the end of August.
