Several newspapers consider that Mr. Lloyd-George's estimate of £1,600,000 as tho extra revenue derived from tho increased duty on spirits is too small. "The Times" asks how a tax can bo justified which virtually takes, according to Mr. Lloyd-George, four millions from tho consumer, but yields to the national exchequer only £1,600,000. Mr. Balfour estimates tho increaso in the death duties at tho top scale at 75 per cent.
TOBACCO AND PETROL DUTIES. (Rec. May 26, 10.35 p.m.) London, May 26. The resolution imposing tho tobacco and petrol duties has been carried in tho Houso of Commons.
