GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

CBT TELEGJUm—riIRS9 ASSOCIATION.] - Christchurch, May 25; The arrangements made for more shipping spado this'month have brought local exporters into the market again, and they aro buying wheat freely at te. at country stations, though the quantity of wheat offering is not large. Shipments require to be made this month by steamer to catch the London market before tlio new crop in the northern hemisphere is available. Late cable reports indicate that the Home market is firm,, with a tendency to higher prices. ;Among the sales reported,' which, however, do not give an idea ; of the volume of business done during last week, are '2400 bushols o fhunters, 4550 bushels of tuscan, and 1200 bushels of pearl at 4s. at country stations,/and other v sales are said to be on the same basis. The Apajima having arrived and discharged, her cargo of cornsacks.for Lyttelton, threshing will probably be resumed by those farmers w.\>o have not made up their minds to hold till spring. Oats are dull of sale. Exporters are giving all their attention to wheat for .early shipment. •Prom the south a large quantity of oats is being -shipped,, as the Homo market is the only outlet at present. ■'■...■'.'' Chaff is in very smair demand, the mildness of- the. season evidently restricting business, and owing to the large out crop there are few districts that have' not got their local supply. Potatoes are easier, and advices have been received of a declino of.2s. 6d. per ton in the North Island. Potatoes that havo been delivered have .turned out very good in condition. Offers have been received from London of 555. 6d. c.i.f. for this season's cocksfoot seed for next spring's sowing. The usual quotations given by. cable nro for. Inst, season's seed for autumn sowing. Advices from London state that owing to the high, prico of New Zealand seed of late years other countries are turning their attention to growing their own seed, and mention is made of one country in particular that has been a regular customer, but now supplies her own requirements.
