. THEFT OF A PORTMANTEAU. Before Air. Justice Coopor yesterday John Thomas Driscoll, who had'pleaded guilty to « chargo of having stolen' a portmanteau containing a suit of clothes and other article's valued at £3 ss. 6d., was sot forward 1 for sentence. His Honour mentioned that, previously, s prisoner had como before Mr. Justice Chapman, who had postponed the passing of sentence in order that tho Probation Officer might have further time in which to report on prisoner's antecedents. Mr. Justice Chapman had informed him that, if tho report woro favourable, ho had mtonded to grant probation. As tho report proved to be favourable, and tho stolen property had been returned, he would admit prisoner to probation for twelve months, on condition that ho paid tho costa of the prosecution, £2 14s.
