Yesterday, at the invitation of llr. Cocker, a t«nm of Y.M.C.A.. fifth-class boys journeyed to Porinia and played a match with a team of Porirua lads. The town boys were hospitably entertained by Mr. Mungavin, president of the Toa United Club, and Mr. AVindley, and at 2 p.m. the striped jersey's pitted themselves against the whites. Over a hundred aud twenty enthusiasts, including sorno ladies, watched the game, which was keenly contested. . Playing with the wind in tho first spell, the city lads, soon got to work and, in spito of tho defenco of two Porirua backs,' who played splendidly, the score at half-time' stood 4to nil. The second spell was lnnch more even. A penalty pavo the Porirua team an'oppoftu-' nity, and Kau Wi Nera piloted the ball through. Two. more goals wore added by the T.M.C.A., and the game ended, 6—l. The secondary schools football tournament for the Devenish Shield commenced on Saturday, when Christchurch Old Boys defeated Wellington College Old Boys. The tournament was concluded to-day, l when Christchurch Old Boys defeated Nelson College Old Boys by 18 to 10.
