ITEwan (Major) for consideration at the next meeting of Petone Borough Council: "That a sub-committeo of five bo set ud for. the purpose of revising and consolidating the borough by-law 6." The Mayor holds that considerable improvement is possible in the by-laws, especially in regard to those which have to do with' buildings and their construction. • ■ . ' ' . ; Mr. MTEwan has also given notice to move: "That the resolution of the council relating to the case of Mr. J. Nero, plumber, be rescinded, and that .he be granted a license to carry out plumbing work within the borough." The object of,tho motion is to make it possible to reconsider the holding of a compulsory examination. "THAT WAS LOST." "Lost on the press table" was a. minute which caUsed no little discussion when read out at a recent meeting of Petone Borough Council. It had reference to a letter from the Tramway Board. The press, representatives denied the allegation implied, and the Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) gave instructions that diligent search should be made in the office. The letter was not forthcoming at the last council meeting, and Councillor Piper moved to delete the minute and remove the slur. However, the Mayor ruled that such a proceeding was out of order, and that notice of motion must be given. The Town Clerk (Mr. A. Webster) now announces that the document has been found. He states that it was filed by mistake along with another lotter considered at that meeting. The matter will come lip at the next council meeting. LOCAL INDUSTRIES. In Petone no exhibitions have been mado in connection, with Industries Week. The only reminder has been the numerous visits of school children to inspect the local manufactories. Recently pupils of seven or eight schools went through the Gear Company's works and the woollen mills. 'Yesterday, scholars, attending the Petone Catholic; School paid a visit to the. works. - .
