ONSLOW BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. A meeting of tho Onslow Borough Council was held last evening. Present: The Mayor, .Mr. J.-.G. Harkness (in the chair), Councillors Plimmerj Stafford, Aplin,' Bannister. Ferguson, Lynneberg, Kiernan, Carver, and Darvall. ,
A deputation of the directors of the Cash-1 more Estate Company, waited on the-coun-cil, and - submitted' proposals in referenco I to the construction of ~a cable ,tram .from the Hutt Road to a point on the Cashmere Estate at the top of tho hill. On the motion of Councillor li'erguson, it was resolved that •a committee bp set up to confer, with., tho directors of the Cashmere Estate Company and report to the council, the committee to consist of the Mayor, Councillors Plimmer, Stafford,'Lynneberg, and Ferguson. ' An offer of tho'Railway Department of 250 yards of road metal towards repairs of Hutt Road was . accepted. ■ It was stated that_ tho extra traffic over the road in connection with the railway construction had necessitated additional'cost in maintaining the road. Tho Wellington City Council : had already agreed to accept tho oner. Accounts amounting'to £538 were passed for payment. It was agreed that the filling in of the Kaiwarra concrete wall, be done as soon as possible; also, that when. the estimates of. expenditure are being considered,, the engineer be, asked, to take into consideration the improvements .to the Old Porirua.Road,,near tho railway station at Khandallah. . Councillor Stafford'moved,,."That the resolution setting up _.the Finance, Lighting,-and Sanitation Committee bo rescinded, and that a Finance Committeo consisting of the Mayor, Councillors Lynneberg, I'limmer. and .Bannister bo set up; also, that the Lighting and Sanitation Committee consist or tho whole, oouncil."—Councillor Ljuneberg said tho second suggestion—that in respect to tho Lighting and Sanitation Committee—had been tried in previous' years, and had not proved successful.—The council divided: Ayes—Councillors Plimmor, Stafford, Bannister, ' Ferguson, and the Mayor." Noes— Councillor* Aplin, Darvall, Carver, Kiernan, and Lynneberg. The resolution was carried On tho casting vote of tho Mayor. *'* A- tender of 15s. ■ a week for the carting of household, refuse from Kaiwarra to tho city destructor was accepted. ' . It was agreed that twenty-eight days' notico bo given to Mr s Murphy, to, remove: a. building which encroaches upoii 5 Winchester; Street and the Main.Road, at Kaiwarra. A honorarium of £50. was voted to the Mayor.
