This •is .the" first occasion on which a combined parade of tho .Navals.and the' Fire Brigade place. The Navals, under; Lieutenant Ellis,..had, a ■miister'of about 75.; Tho .other officers, pre-' sent were: Major Freeman,iLieutenant Price, and . :.Captain ■ Richardson.';, Superintendent Lepper had charge of: about twenty: firemen, and the Brass Band,' under Mr. It. Jones's conductorship, .numbered'lß. ; I -The church was crowded. Mr.; J. H. Sherwin' was atthe organ, and the choir sang a special anthem, "How Beautiful upon the Mountains."; The lesson's were .read..by ;Major Freeman'; and Lieutenant' Price. ■'. Chaplain-Major■ -Russell preached .from; Joshua jv, 13,- and described the character of .the great soldier'. Joshua— a type for the true Christian soldier/ Having been; connected with the Petone Narals for "eleven years, the Chaplain was able from personal to' commend the corps for efficiency and discipline. Ho heartily favoured, the: introduction of:a' system of urii.versal military training. In conclusion,.ho thankbd.the company for their; sympathy with him in his recent illness, and congratulated them on again winning the. Garrison Artillery Challenge Shield for'efficiency.
