Buxton, chairman of directors of the brewing firm of Truman, Hanbury, Buston and Co. (total capital £3,515,000), and Mr.; Whitbrcad, head of, the browing firm of Whitbrcad and Co. (total capital £4,870,043, including loans), have written to "The Times" criticising the Budget's now taxation proposals. They state that their two ,browing companies must hereafter pay £104,745: per, annum in increased licenses, though their annual profit is only £61,300. Manufacturers have' increased by 10 per' cent, the price of Eau de Cologne scents and drugs, containing, spirits, ■" also . hairwashes." '' The retail price of tobacco has been increased by a halfpenny per ounce.
