ISLAND FRUIT TRADE.

THE INTENTION OP MR. GLOVER, ,M.P. In spito of. the official statement that Mediterranean fruit fly has been reared from Cook. Island fruit, Mr. Albert Glover, an Auckland importer of Island fruit, arid now a''momber of Parliament, is preparing to reopon tlio controversy when Parliament meets. : It has. already been suggested that the Cook \ Islanders should employ an inspector appointed' by the New Zealand Government, so that the fruit should bo inspected before dispatch, and thus become exempt from the ordinary regulations. If this were proposed by tho Island interests it would probably bo agreed to by the. New Zealand authorities, anjpossibly when Mr. Glovor has considered this method he may give up his intended Parliamentary crusade., Referring to the subject on Friday, tho Auckland "Star" said:— ■! "The.working of the now fruit regulations, and the inauguration of a specially subsidised Wollington-Island 'steamer survicc, aro likply to bo the subjects of very serious discussion in tho Hduse of Representatives this session. Mr. A. E. Glover, recently-elected member fo; City Central, is an authority on matters affecting tho Island. fruit trade,'and he has already collected a considerable, amount of statistical information to prove that as far as the Cook Islands are concerned the speciallysubsidised steamer service from Wellington is
