Gfeig, visited tho- last-named gentleman's Tokomaru' mills last week.-.-The statement , that "the, Campbell .Timber Company intended :to .remove' their Otaki' mill to .Shannon, where; cutting . would -be started. forthwith; was welcome news here, as; owing to-the early-,closing down of: some' of the flax mills, there is a good, deal of unemployment;, in tho district, and winter prospects* are not very' bright. ' VPnfortunately the news is only partially true.. The company havo 110 intention of working the mill, whose plant .will -. be brought to Shannon, whero it will be, stored prior to being, auctioned. ;. Mr. F. W Venn* was appointed delegate to the conference at Eketahuna next month., . The football season .was inaugurated last Saturday, when Shannon defeated Linton, at Shannon, by 11 points.to 5. - For ithe local team Timins scored a iry, which lie' converted, and scored again:. from a free kick. J. Cuminings also obtained a try. Amongst the losers' backs, Grimstone, Thompson, Fitz. and Walker, and Brown in the forwards were conspicuous. Timms,. Dalziell, Law, and Osborne were the pick of the local forwards,-and Broughton, Brown, and N. Smith wero tho best. of . tho backs. Mr.EV Foster was referee. •
