.... w. .. '. fl; ~; ' A LITTLE FRICTION.. \ . ; tBY TELEGUAI'H—ritESS .ASSOCIATION.) 1 ' Christcliurch, April 26. At tho meeting of tho Board'of Governors of Canterbury: College this, afternoon-a letter' was received from the Robert. G> Deans' Memorial Committee asking tho permission of the board to erect a memorial tablet in the Boys' High School. Tho chairman.(Mr. G. W. Russell) read the letter which he had sent in reply, pointing out that tho board had never been officially consulted in tho matter, and. that nothing could bo done without the approval of tho board. This brought a reply from Mr.-C. Bevan-Brown, headmaster of the school, pointing out that among tho members' of the committee were Dr. Moor-' house and Mr. J. C. Adams, members of the .board ,and Mr. G. H. Mason, registrar. It was pointed out that nothing definite! had been filially decided upon until recently; i. The chainnan, however, , said the board could not recognise members of the 1 board or their registrar as being.their representatives where they were acting quito ,in an unofficial capacity.' Ho pointed out also that something definite had. already been done, as a pupil of tbp High School had been declared tue first Dpans Memorial scholar and a certificate, presented. ' The board had been entirely ignored, and he. thought it undesirable that there should be any relaxation of the board's control of the-institution. Ho ; moved that the matter be referred to a committee consisting of Messrs.. Montgomery, • Weston Rowe K and the mover. This was agreed to.'
