WELLINGTON GOLF CLUB.

An annual meeting of the Wellington Golf Club was held m-the Sydney Street Sclioolroom last'evening, but was not open to the press.

Under the_ present , rules , entrance fees must be devoted to capital expenditure, arid are therefore available for tho reduction' of the debentures or mortgages, but cannot, be applied to the upkeep of the links.' '. At.tlio beginning of the season the committee .received the sum of 6s. lid, from the original syndicate, being the balance of the profit on the sale of .sections.facing the main, road. Debentures for £200 were'issued to the members of the syndicate in proportion to their guarantees,, and the balance of £10 6s.- lid. had been presented to the club for; the purchase of a trophy "to commemorate the syndicate s . work in Connection with the .purchase of .the Jinks." During the year the work of improving the links lias been pushed ahead, and there now only remains tho formation of bunkers, construction of now tees, and further ' improvements ,to the greens, all of which'should receive the early attention of the new committee. During tho year 39 playing members and 16 noil-playing members were elected, and resignations were reoeived from one playing member, two nonplaying members, and two country, members, lho. total membership is now 222 playing .members, 64, non-playing members) and 36 country members. ■ .The club is indebted to Sir Joseph Ward and tho Misses Joseph for trophies which they have, presented to the c'ir com Peted for annually. The visit of Martin, the professional' coach, was attended with . considerable success, inasmuch as his time was fully occupied during the five _weeks/ho attended .the links, and the standard of .play has been considerably raised as the result of his'coaching. The new committee sliould take into. consideration a repetition of tho visit, unless funds can be provided for the permanent employment of a coach. ■ ; . • ,
