"fßy TELEGRAPH—riIESS iSSOOUTIO.f.I Auckland, 'April 19. ; The Native Conference at Huntly to-day terminated! in an. apparent solution of; land problems which have concerned the Waikato tribe for.; many; years. - The-proposals Biib'-' mitted to Ministers,.in attendance'with' ro-, gard to the allocation of 700,000 acres of land reported on by the, Native Land Commission were agreed to, as was also; a suggestion for the use of funds, derived-from the sale of the Mana .lands, to repurchase certain : areas at Ngauruhoe and Te Kuiti for village, settlement purposes. The question as to whether, lands proposed to be leased and osld should be administered by the . Native Land Boards or a. Native committee proved too vexed a one for scttle- , ment off-hand, however, and the leaders of te Natives -agreed to go into committee for. further consideration. The result was eminently satisfactory, King Mahuta announcing this afternoon that his people were agreeable to lands set aside, for European settlement being administered ; by the boards. as ■at present constituted, ■ with the provision that the proposed Native committee should act. in an advisory; capacity. Provision- \,yiild be made for landless . Natives, and everything (including the administra-. tion .of the dog: tax) would be placed in the hands of the Native Minister. The Horn J. Carroll, Native Minister, and Hon. A. T. Nga'ta, who attended the coriferericey ■ left by the Main Trunk express for Wellington to-night. For.
