Tho Royal Mail Steam Packet'Co.'b steamer Ortona (7915 tons gross, employed in-the', Australian mail service in conjunction with the Orient Co.'s boats) collided with tho small steel screw steanicr Tryst (580 ton's gross, registered at Belfast). Tlio Tryst struck tho Ortona amidships on tho port side. Tho screw of tho Ortonii was twisted, but sho sustained no material damage, and subsequently proceeded to Plymouth. The Tryst foundered shortly after the collision. Her crow were resened. The captain of tho Ortona states that when tho collision occurred no one was at the Tryst's bridge wheel.
