SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE. ; A return of tho value of exports from Wellington for tho 12 months ended March ,■ 31 last shows an increase as compared with the .value of exports for tho previous 12 : months, although the figures are still behind i the total for tho year ended Maich 31, 1907, as will be seen from the tabulated return for the past three years given below. The total "voluo of exports was £3,385,823, ; an increase of £287,951 over the 12 months ended March 31 last year. The first half of the.year was not as brisk' as the first six months of tho previous year, the June quarter shOwing_a falling off of £110,689. Tho same remag* 4 applies to the September quarter, away by £114,623. From Oc- ; tobor on to'the end of Maroh there was a general improvement, the increases 'in these months carrying the total abovo the .figures for tho previous year. The increase in values in tho December quarter was £51,306, and the'final quarter of the financial year gives a solid increase of £461,957. Products sent to the United Kingdom increased by £121,734, as against the previous 12 months,- and the value of goods shipped to America increased by £209,807. .Europe took £6430 worth more than in ,tho'preceding 12 months, and a steady in- , crease is shown in.the African figures, also i in the totals sent to the Pacific Islands. The exports to Australia fell away from £264,621 to £199;795, and a steady decline in the values of goods sent to Asia is also noticeable.
