UNIVERSITY TOURNAMENT.

■ THE CANTERBURY TEAM. - ; , Arrangements for the New Zealand University tournament, to be held here during the Easter holidays, are well in hand. The Auckland team, consisting of twelve men and four ladies, and managed .by. Mr. S. H.. Ellis, .will arrive in Wellington'by the Main Trunk train on Thursday. The Otago nnd Canterbury teams, each consisting of eighteen men and twelve ladies, with a pood company of supporter?, will reach Wellington by Friday morninir's boat from the south. Otago and Wellington representatives have already been described, and the following account of somo of the Canterbury men may bo interesting. In the sprint events R Opie will be the representative. He is well known as having run second to Woodger in the 100 and 220 yards at the New Zealand championships, and has several times been credited with doing 100 yards in 10 l-ssec. Last Saturday, running with a good wind at his back, he covered the distance in lOsec. M'Kenzie was last year's M 0 yards champion of Otago, and this year ho ran third in the 4-10 yards hurdles at the championships. . AlacC'allum, the present University half-mile champion, represented Canterbury in the half-mile at the New Zealand meeting. Ho was the Canterbury College nominee for the Rhodes scholarship this year. Dougall is. the- University mile champion, and was one of Canterbury's representatives at the New Zealand championships. His best performance for this season was ia the Canterbury College crosscountry race, when he put up a record. Last Saturday ho ran a halfmile in'2min. ssec. The Canterbury representative in the walking events as Twyneham, at present .University champion, and ranking third iii his province. His time , for a mile last Saturday was 7min. 22sec. In other sections of the tournament the,"Province of the Plains" will be well represented, and, in the tennis competition, they may be expected to come out victorious. L. S. Jcnnis, the "stor"'niembor of the team, played originally for'Taranaki.
