YORK'S LADY MAYORESS.

At York thero is a local saying:— My lord is my lord for a year and a day, But my lady's my lady for aye and for aye. This rhyino is associated with the old practico of calling a Lady Mayoress of York "Lady" during her wliolo life. It somehow reminds 0110 of another old saying:— My son is my son till he's jrot him a wife, But my da filter's my daughter all her life.
