Sir Joseph Ward, and the Hons. J. A. Millar, J. Carroll, Dr. Findlay, and A. T. Ngata arc in town, and tho Hon. D. Buddo is expected this morning. Tho Hon. G. Fowlds is at Tauranga, tho Hon. R. M'Kenzio goes to Greyniouth to-day, the Hon. A. \V. Hogg is at Te Kuiti, and the Hon. T. Maekenzio at Fairlie. ' Mr. Thomas Humphries, Surveyor-General, retires on a pension of £466 per annum. Mr. Hugo, Superintendent of. Fire Boards, arrived from tho south on Saturday. The Hon. J. A. Millar intcuds to resume and complete his inspection of tho South island railways soon after tho Easter holidays. Upon tho application of Mr. Campbell, Mr. Chas. Edward Matthews, of Auckland, was re-enrolled as a solicitor of tho Supreme Court by Mr. Justice Cooper yesterday. Mr. Alfred Hill, the talented musician, underwent, another operation on Saturday. Ho lies at Nurse Jackson's private hospital, and his family is very hopeful of his steady improvement. , A Press Association message from Reefton states that the Minister for Lands arrived there on Sunday. Ho received a deputation yesterday, and was entertained at a banquet last night. Mr. James Thorn, vice-president, and recent president, of tile Canterbury Trades ami Labour Council, arrived in Wellington yesterday, on his way to England, to study labour problems. Mr. G. S. Titheradgc, veteran actor, who has been laid up in Auckland for two months suffering from appendicitis, has sufficiently recovered to bo able to got about again (rays a Press Association t-eiegram), and left by the s.s. Victoria for Sydney last night. Mr. W. J., lilako, who retires on superannuation from tho Labour Department, lias been presented by bis brother officers with a number of silver-mounted smoking requisites. Mr. P. Mr. Millington, the new gaoler of tlio Wellington Prison, was cliiof warder hero a year ago. Ho keeps on Rood relations with his prisoners, and was very successful in his management of several habitual offenders who were confined at New Plymouth during his last gaolership. A Christcliurch Press Association telegram states that Mr. \V. H. Triggs has resigned tho editorship of the "Press," in consequence of disagreements with the board of directors as to the representation of Clirist-clnu-cli at the Imperial Press Conference. There has been no difference of opinion as to the- policy of the paper. Mr. T. H. llnstwick, analyst to the Customs Department and Inspector of Explosives, who is retiring on superannuation, has been 13 or 14 years in the. service. He was first engaged as an inspector under Iho Licensing Act, and when tho Explosives Act was passed ho was appointed to one of the two inspectorships provided for by that measure. Mr. Ilustwick is also chemist to the Customs Department, and has performed a useful function in analysing and reporting upon now substances that are imported into tlio Dominion.'
