HOMING PIGEON RACES.
On Wednesday last, the "Wellington Homing Pigeon Society held an interval race from Napier for a trophy presented by Mr. P. Ncilsou. Sjxtoen lofts were each represented by ono bird. They wcro liberated by Mr. David Laiiiß at ten minutes' intervals, the first bird being let up at 9 a.m. A f-trong liend wind and, rain for tho 167 miles had to be contended against, and only one bird homed on the day. This was Mr. W. Bailey's No. 54, which was tho first bird liberated, and was timed in at 5.1 p.m. Messrs. ]3. Griffiths's No. 53, B, Lewis's No. 97, A. Clark's No. 2-15, and A. Croskory's No. 203 wcro timed on tho following morning in that order. On tho following Saturday a flock rnco was flown from Napier, and an exceedingly close finish resulted. I'orty-nino birds took part, representing twelve lofts, and tho time taken by the winning bird was ,'ilir. Smin. Tho averago velocities of the winning birds were as follows:—Mr. V, Williams's No. 220, velocity 97Syds. lft, 3in. per minute, lj Mr. .T. 11. Clark's No. 255, velocity OTSyils. .lft. 2in. per minute, 2; Mr. W. Bailey's No. 353, velocity 9GGyds. per minute, 3; Mr. If. Lewis's No. 431, velocity OGOyils. per minute, 1; Mr. J. J. Elliott's No. 80, velocity'9s7yds. per minute, 5; Mr. A. Clark's No. 214, velocity 790 yds. por minute, G.
