A WORKER'S PROTEST.

"NO GOOD."

Sir,—l have been watching your columns to see if some abler pen than mine would take up this subject. It is to be sincerely hoped that our representatives, when they meet, will not countenance this giving away of the people's money without their consent When one thinks'tho matter out, it is really absurd. Here is our colony, at presont struggling with bad times, and the Prime Minister goes and gives away £4,000,000 a tax of about £10 per head on every adult in the Dominion, simply to get kudos. It is so simple for a man in his position to gain notoriety at other people's expense. England, with her hundreds of millions of invested money, could build a hundred Dreadnoughts if she so desired, and this ostentatious display of the Prime Minister's with the public money does not help Britain, or frighten the Germans, but puts a big load on to this colony, which we working men will have to Pay »> r . in «xtra taxation, probably on our lood. It ]B not right that one man should give away our money to such an enormous oxtent without consulting our representatives, who, when they meet, I hope will repudiate the liability put on tho Dominion without their permission. In Australia they are going tho right way to work. The rich people who can afford -it are providing the money for a battleship. Their Premier is a man of wisdom, who does not rush things and squander the public money as our Prime Minister would like to do. I would like to read an article on the subject by some able writer.—l am, etc., „ , oe . WORKER. March 25. .

Sir,—"No good would be done by again asking vendors for their views, because the scheme itself is no good." It would mean an expenditure every penny of whoso outlay could be counted in detriment to the milk and disability to the consumer.—l am, etc „ , HENRY BODLEY. March 26, 1909.
