Sir Alfred Jones, presiding over the monthly meeting of the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, under whose auspices it is hoped that a visit will be paid to Liverpool by Sir Robort Hart, said that the sooner British people knew more about China than they do at present, the better it will be. "It is a most mysterious country, full of possibilities," he added, "and I think the sooner we know more about it the better it will be for the commercial people of this country."
