INSURANCE PROPOSALS. Tho insurance scheme which is being brought forward by Messrs. A. Humphries, of New Plymouth, and \V. C. Cargill, of Paten, tinder (ho auspices of tho Now Zealand Rugby Union, for consideration at the annual meeting of tho governing body, goes into the subject very exhaustively. Payments for ordinary accidents range at about 30s. per week per man, with £200 in case of death. Limb losses are also given a pounds-shillings-and-pence value. It is estimated that the cost of insurance would bo about ss. per head, to bo obmo by tho union interested, and amongst other things it is suggested that each club should iusuro at least its first fifteen, and that tho New Zealand Union should subsidise tho general fund to the extent of £200. These proposals may be slightly amonded before tho day of the annual meeting. RUGBY UNION'S ANNUAL MEETING. Dr. A. K. Newman occupied the chair at the annual meeting of tho Wellington Rugby Union held last evening. The annual report and balance-sheet (which was published a few days ago) was adopted with littlo discussion. The following officers were elected T for tho ensuing year:—President, Dr. A. K. Newman; vice-presidents, Capt. J. King, Messrs. A. H. Turnbull, G. F. C. Campbell, and J. P. Firth (Wellington College); treasurer, Mr. Percy Smith; secretary, Mr. W. G. Talbot; management committee, Messrs. E. O. Hales, J. Sweeney, AV .Perry, S. S. Brown, W. Hardham, J. O'Sullivan, V. Meredith, sen.; selection committee, Messrs. V. Meredith, H. Roberts, J. Pudney; junior selection committee, Messrs. Eraser, Walsh, and J. Brown; vicepresident New Zealand Rugby Union, Mr. G. F. C. Campbell. It was decided that, contrary to the _ rule which has obtained in the past, the president and vice-president should, have a vote at the annual meeting of the union. Mr. S. Brown brought forward a motion dealing with an increase in the insurance fund, whereby each team entered in any cup fixture would pay 10s. per year more than at present, and so gain extra benefits. The meeting rejected tho motion, but, recognising that something more should bo done in tho direction indicated in Mr. Brown's motion, increased the union's contribution to the accident fund from £20 to MO. Tho motion originating from the Oriental Club to the effect that any club joining the union after March 21 should enter a team for the senior contest was rejected. The St. Patrick's College Old Boys' Club and the Upper Hutt Club were admitted to the union. Tho chairman of tho new management committee will bo elected at the first meeting.
