THE GOVERNOR.
A GRE'iT MAORI GATHERING. (BY TMJZGIUrU—PRESS Port Awanui, March 24. A groat Maori gathoring took place- at Waiomatatini to-day, being tho largest over held on the East' Coast. There was a great Native display of hakas, dances, etc., and addresses from the Ngatiporou tribe and residents. Veterans of tho Maori War were presented to his Excellency tho Governor, and swords of honour prosonted by Queen Victoria were exhibited. Tho Hon. A. T. Ngata led tho hakas in full regalia. Messages and congratulations to tlio Ngatiporou tribe wero received from the Hon. J. Carroll and Sir J. G. Ward. The vice-regal party, including tho Hon. A. T. Ngata, embarked at Port Awanui at 5 p.m. for Tckaha and Opotiki in heavy rain. Fine weather prevailed for tho demonstration.
