LIFE FROM STERILE EGGS.
M. \vcs Delago has just been investigating tho fertilisation of eggs in what he calls an "electric bath." Ho takes salt water and places_ it iii a shallow tray, tho bottom of which is mado of mica, covered on tho outside with tinfoil. The tinfoil and tho liquid aro connected respectively with tho opposito poles of an electric battery, which, since tho two are separated, throws tho mica bottom between thorn into a state of electric tension. On this mica bottom aro spread m a thin layer tho unfertilised ogps of a marmo organism. After tho linufd has been joined with tho positive polo of tho battery for thirty minutes tho poles aro reversed for seventy-five minutes more, alter which, when placed in ordinary sea water, some of the eggs develop and'hatch precisely as lif they had been fertilised in. tho ordinary way.
