RENTS IN WELLINGTON.
'Sir, —In your issuo of to-day ro tlie grocer's dispute, ■ ono of the. witnesses, Mr. W. G. Eggers, in giving evidence against the claim 'of the men for an iiicroaso of wages, by! reason of the increased cost of living, stated that during tho past year rents had decreased, and when aslced to stato the localities where such reductions had taken place, in tho list, ho mentioned Mortimer Terrace. Tho description is a four-roomed house, 1 original rent fourteen shillings, prosent rent eleven shillings. Now, sir, I happen to live in Mortimer Terrace. Mr. Eggers is my landlord, or -agent: it is a fourroomed house, but the rent is fifteen shillings per week, and the folks who lived here before us paid the same. But perhaps I am rather premature in my. comments; i( may be his intention to reduce my rent tf that extent, if so may I approach him wiM a biblical text,-"What thou docst, do quick ly,"' and oblige a liumblo tenant with t \nr"e familv, and small income. Trusting, sir," you will find space in "your valuable columns to insert theso few lines.—l am, 0t0 '' g. G. JONES. 25 Mortimer Terrace, Wellington. March 19.
