"CONTINENTAL SUNDAY."

Sir,—l should foci indebted if you would 1 kindly insert these few lines ill your valu- ) ablo paper, refuting tho Rev. J. J. North's ' statements made lust Sunday. This rever- 1 end gentleman, in common- fairness to tho J ladies of tho Comic Opera Company, should . at least make certain of his facts ero public- 1 ly condemning. Tho ladies in question, by permission of their management, gratuitous- ' ly gave their services. No payment was re- 1 ecivcd by them, neither was any expected, j Mr. North, by simply inquiring, could liavo prevented himself making this misstate- ( ment as to tho payment of these ladies for j their services at the Orchestral Concert on Sunday. Tho ladies themselves feel much 1 annoyed at tho publicity they have been : brought int-o by tno Rev. North's statement. ' Personally, I can seo no dilferenco between ' music in a Toivn Hall and music in a 1 church. In both places tho plate is thero for subscriptions. And rightly so; wherever good music is to be heard, cither in church or hall, I say by all means let us go and hear it. And if we enjoy it, may be, forget some of our week-day troubles whilst listening to it, then lot us thank God for tho broadmindedness of our City Councillors, who allow us this inestimable privilege. I am no scholar, only the son of a dour covenantor frao Scotia, And on Scotia's hills my forbears sang every , day in tho week, caring nothing for tho law .or opposition Kirk. Let there be music' everywhere.-*-] am, .etc., HARMONY. March 22.
