MEAT INSPECTION.
BRITISH AND CONTINENTAL SYSTEMS, British and Continental methods of meat inspection aro eonmared at considerable length in a report (published in tho "Meat Trades Journal") by Messrs Geo. Anderson, Duncan Porritt, and It. H. Brechin. These gentlemen visited Germany, Austria, and Franco officially to inspect abattoirs. In the course of their report they show the disparity between the severity of Glassow inspection of beef and the leniency of inspection on the Continent in tho ' following figures (tlio figures are for tho year 19u6 for 'Glasgow, Berlin, and Oifenbach, and for 1907 for the other towns) I —
■ ■ I IMMIGRATION. At a meeting of the Tarauaki Executive of tho Now Zealand Farmers' Union, held at Haiyera on Thursday, a letter was read from tho Dominion Executive, asking for definite information as to the demand for farm labourers and domestic servants, with a viow to co-operating with the central (unemployed) body for London, in procuring tho right class of immigrants, and arranging for employment on their arrival. The following resolution was carried: —"That tho executive be informed that there is a good demand in Tarauaki for farm labourers, bushfeUers, and domestic servants at good wages."
