; « . STRUCK BY AN ENGINE. , . Danncuirks, March 20. An inquest was hold into tho death of "Wil- . Jiam Harold Smart, who died as tho result or an accident on tho raihvav on March 10 m which a light engine collided with a velocipede propelled by deceased and a surfaceman named Davolosky. The coroner returned the following verdict :-"Dnath-was duo to embolism in tho brain arising from a fracture of the right leg, which fracture was caused bv tho collision." i J ! CHILD KILLED BY MOTOR-OAR. . Invocoargill, March 21. - At tho inquest on Saturday, before tho coroner, on Ellen Mary Sotiles, tho child who was knocked down by Dr. Fullarton's motorcar on l'riday, the medical evidence showed that the child had sustained a broken rib and indicated that death was due to 'syncope' tho result of tho shock.. Tho evidence also showed that tho woman who was with the child was almost blind. Tho verdict was accidental death, no blame being attachablo .to Dr. .lullartonj FOUND DEAD. Chrlstchurch, March 21. _ An old man named Andrew Hardio, residing at Linwood, was found lying dead outside Ins cottage this morning. THE WIND TOOK CHARGE. On Saturday morning a married man named lies. C'artwright, residing in Nelson •woot, had the lnisfortuno to meet with an accident while working at the forts at Scatoun. Ho was carrying a piece of timber when tho wind, which was blowing vcrv fiercely at the time, got hold of it, and blew Uirtwright over, fracturing some of his ribs He was taken to the hospital for treatment and it was reported lost night that he was progressing favourably.
