FIELD ARTILLERY.
RHODES 1 CUP, 'COMPETITION FIGURES; -
The official results of tho annual shooting competition for the challenge cup presented to the N.Z. 'Field Artillery Volunteers by Mrs. S. A. Rhodes have beefi now announced. The competing corps were: The A Battery (Auckland), ti Battery (Dunedin),' D Battery (Wellington); E Battery (Christchurch), and II Battery (Nelson). It was previously announced in tlieso columns that A Battery had won the cup on the superiority of its fire-effedt. The following is a comparative analysis of the shooting or each corps:— Mean Range (yards)—A Battery, 2150; B Battery, 2870; D Battery, 3250; E Batten-, 2745; II Battery, 3250. ~ ' ■ > * The times occupied: (n)-in: getting the first percussion shell away, after the word of command was given; (b) in firing the first time shell, i.e., as from the word ,of command, tho range having meanwhile ..been determined by .the percussion shells;' (c)-iff getting the first effective shell 011 the .targets;'and (d), in tho total period of the action', there being 25 rounds of shell to bo fired, with four rounds of percussion, are best shown in tabulated form, as under:— 1 d - . d . . £ 0 ® 1.1 w > .3 ' 2 ! 2 o 3 1 .2 , £ * t H s '3 ' 1-1 iH r5 H ro.s.
