The Prime Minister, the Hon. J. Carroll, the Hon. J. A. Millar, the Hon. R. M'Kenzia, the Hon. A. W. Hogg, and the Hon. D. Buddo are in Wellington to-day. The Hon. Dr. Findlay and the Hon. T. Mackenzie are en route from Dunediu to Christchurch, the Hon. G. Fowlds is at Chriutchurch, and the Hon. A. T. Ngata at Port Awanui. , Mr. Justioe Cooper is expected to return to Wellington from Hokitika on Monday. The Rev. E. A. Axelsen, of Dtmedin, is in town,. > : Mr. W. G. Ponsonby has been appointed an engineering draughtsman in the Public Works Department. Mr. F. B. Corkill, of New Plymouth, who has been on a short holiday to Wellington, returns by this morning's express train. The Hon. J. A. Millar intends to inspect the Midland and Wcßt Coast railways next week. The Hon. R. M'Kcnzio has been obliged to postpone for about a week his intended visit to Nelson and Marlborough. The Hon. G. Fowlds and the Hon. T. Mackenzie and the Hon. Dr. Findlay are expected back from the south to-morrow morning. The Bland Holt Company and the Clierniavski Concert Party wero passengers by the Mceraki, which left for Sydney last evening. Sergt. Hulbert, of the Wellington Post and Telegraph Riilos, has been appointed district signalling staff officer, with the rank of lieutenant. Mr. H. W. Barbor, who is retiring on superannuation from the railways clerical staff, has been presented with a silver hotwater kettle, spirit lamp, and pipe as a souvenir front his fellow-officers. Tho Hon. A. W. Hogg goes to Mastcrton to-day, but will return to Wellington on Monday, ' having been obliged to postpone his next visit to the backblocks so as to attend an important series of Cabinet meetings next week. A Nelson Press Association telegram states that at the City Council meeting last night Mr. li. V. Gully, for 34 years town clerk, tendered his resignation, which was accepted with regret. Jlr. Gully was voted three months' salary from the time of the expiration of notice. For tho past nine years Mr. J ; J. Cassells has been stationed at Wellington in tho detectivo force, and his many friends will regret to learu that Commissioner Dinnie has transferred him to Palmerston North. No doubt tho criminal clement will bo equally jubilant to learn that Sir. Cassells is being shifted outsido tho metropolitan area. Mr. D. J. Stuart, one of tho auditors of the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Co., desires us to express his regret that, at tho final meeting of tho company on Thursday, lie omitted to include tho name of Jlr. Mouat among those of tho office staff from whom tho auditors had received much help and attention. Jlr. Mouat succeeded Jlr. Stephens, on the retirement of tho latter, some years ago, to engage in personal business. At tho Palmerston Post Offico yesterday morning (says our Palmerston correspondent) the postmaster, Jlr. W. T. Ward, on behalf of tiio staff, presented Mr. D. J, licavis, who is to be married on Wednesday, with a handsome dinner service. In making the presentation, Jlr. Ward made reference to the efficient manner in which Jlr. Boavis had always carried out his duties, and wished him happiness and prosperity. _ Ho is to bo married to Miss Blick, of Wellington.
