Unfortunately, there are sonic cases of measles and scarlet fever on board. < As, however, the people affected are isolated, it is expected that the vessel, which is due here next Monday, will be granted pratiquo on arrival. THE MAEERE. Last night the Tyser Company's steamer Marere was due in Wauganui for loading purposes. She leaves there on Saturday ior Welling.ton,, and at this port loading work will be um- ' plcted, and bunkers replenished, and the Marere will probably get away for London via Ijaa Palmas on Monday. About 10 a.m. yesterday the Union Company's liner Marama .arrived in the stream from Sydney direct, when, after inspection, the vessel berthed at the Queen's Wharf. Sydney was left at 5 p.m. on Saturday, and the heads about two hours later, some time bi.-ir.ff occupied in taking , transhipments from a German liner in the bay. Till Tuesday fresh variable winds and beam seas were met with, after which the Marama ran into a strong easterly wiud, with rough head seas, which lasted till port was made. Imports by the Marama include the following items:—so 4 felloes, 07 canes bottles, 25 case? naphtha, 40 packages paper, 150 case 9 spirits, 1600 bags rice, 51 packages periodicals, 200 bags coke, 40 bags wax, 73 bags riecmeal, 40 cases candles, 522 eases tea, 2<-!0 bags fodder, 507 bags flour, 150 bags manure, 239 eases eoap, 295 cases fruit, aud sundries. • She leaves at 4 p.m. to-day for Lyttelton and Dunedin, withdrawing from the Melbourne-Wei-lington-Sydney service, and taking up lho y Manuka's run to Sydney via Auckland and' ports. She leaves Dunedin next Tuesday, and is duo here on Thursday. Explosives for Westport are being shipped by the Anchor Line steamer Wavcrloy. She leaves Wellington to-day. The local agents advise that the steamer Moa has been requisitioned to run, in conjunction with the Stormbird and Huia, in the WellingtonWanganui trade.. It is expectcd that the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Faparoa will be in readiness to-day to leave Wellington for Lyttelton. Early yesterday morning the Union Company's stoainer Koinata . left Westport for Wellington She will be followed by the lvittawa, which was to leave last night. It is announced by a Sydney exchange that the Shaw, Saviil, and Albion steamer Aotea has been fixed to load general cargo at Liverpool for Melbourne, Sydney, and New Zealand ports. The Aotea is to sail to-day. The death occurred at Westport, on March 14, of Captain Matthews, who has been employed by the Westport Harbour Board for the last 16 years, and was well known as the master of the Rubi Seddon. The cause of death, it appears, was heart disease. Tho captain was a very valued officer of the board, and handled vessels in a masterly manner. He was only 49 years of age, and leaves a widow and one son.
