A REMARKABLE PLAY.
1. The home of tho Englishman, Mr, Brown, of Wickham, Essex, beforo tho storm bursts. Mr. Brown's aim in life is to play diabofo. and Geoffrey Smith, Amy Brown, and Ada Jones live to watch professional football, while Reggie Brown's soul dwells in Limerick competitions. A volunteer friend is being jeered at by Geoffrey, the great Cup Tio patron, for wasting his Saturday afternoons at riflo practice, whereas he might enjoy himself, and, let tho British army protect him in return for taxes paid. 2. Mr. Brown's indignation at tho intrusion of a stranger into tho room. He is a sergeant of a foreign army,' which, under cover of tha dense fog, has landed in Essex, and which is soon in possession of the house. 3. Prince Yoland, head of the invading forces, interviewing Geffrey after releasing him from the scullery, in which ho has passed the night. This shallow, but cheery, young Englishman is soon to be shot dead while "watching the fun" when the house is attacked. L. English volunteers, wretchedly led, with little ammunition and less skill, resisting the assault oil Mr. Brown's house with futile bravery. The fissure in the wall is tlie result of slisll fire. Mr. Brown still holds his place on'his ruined hearth and curses fate, and when later on, refusing to retreat, ho goes mad with rage and slaughters somo advancing besiegers, he also meets his end.—"lllustrated Sporting and Dramatic News."
