THE GOVERNOR'S TOUR.
FROM NAPIER TO KOTORUA. The Hon. A. T. Ngata lias arranged tho following itinerary, says the "Poverty Bay Herald, for the forthcoming visit of his Excellency tho Governor to the East Coast and Bav of Plenty:— 1 March 21 (Sunday).—His Excellency leaves by Government steamer'Tutanekai from the Napier breakwater at 7 p.m. direct for Tnparoa. ■ March 22 (Monday).—His Excellency lands at Tuparoa at 9 or 10 a.m. Reception by Waiapu County Council and luncheon. In the afternoon his Excellency will drive to Matahiia, where tho party will be the guests of Mr. and Mrs. K. a. Williams, chairman of tho Waiapu County Council. ; March 23 (Tuesday).—Leaving Matahiia by vehicle about 8.30 a.m., his Excellency will arrive at Waiqmatntini at 11 a.m., whore lie will be formally received by tho Ngatiporou tribe. The preliminary proceedings will taktf the form of a war dance and hakas of welcome. The vice-regal party will he quartered at the residence of Mr. Henaro Mahuika, a nephew of the late Major Itopata Wahawaha. At 2 p.m. a visit will bo paid to the Waiomatatini School adjacent, and later in the afternoon the chiefs and representatives of' the tribe will gather at tho largo carved meeting-house, Porourangi, and will formally tender their addresses and a few speeches and appropriate songs. As, inter alia, the meeting is for the purpose of celebrating the renovation of this tribal runanga house, his Excellncy will be asked to declare it "duly open," and to reply to the address. Tribal heirlooms, consisting of the sword of honour presented to the late Mokeno Kohere and Major Ropata Wahawaha will be displayed for his Excellency's inspection, and representatives of these loyal chiefs and warriors will,' with his Excellency's permission, bo presented to him. Old soldiers who took part in the Hau-hau war and in tho campaign against To Kooti will also be presented. If time permits tho party will be taken to the top of Papatu Hill, above tho meetinghouse, to bo shown a view of the Waiapu Valley. March .24 (Wednesday).—Tho vice-regal party will leave at 8.30 a.m., and drive to Rangitukia, where his Excellency be asked to unveil the monument to the late Mokena Kohere, and to visit the Native school, tho largest in the district, where there is a workshop, and technical work is done. Light luncheon will bo partaken of at Tiki tiki School, and the party leaves for Te Araroa at 1 p.m., being due there at fivo o'clock.' A reception will be held on arrival, and an address' presented prior to tho party boarding the steamer that will be lying in waiting in the roadstead, If the programme is too heavy the visit to Rangitukia will be cancelled. March 25 (Thursday).—The party lands at Te ICaha at 11 a.m. Presentation and the usual hakas of welcome will take place luncheon. In the afternoon the party will be the guests of tho Rev. and Mrs. Pahou until returning to the steamer in the evening. March 2G (Friday).—Leave for Opotiki or Ohiwa, according to tho tide. The programme, after arrival at either of these places, will be entrusted to the local bodies. Tho AVhakatoheo tribe will take part in the reception. March 27 (Saturday).—Leave Opotiki at 9 a.m., reaching Whakatano at noon. Reception by local County Council and Ngatiawa tribe. March 28 (Sunday).—At Whakatane. March 20 (Monday).—Leayo at 8.30 a.m. lor Ruatoki, tho capital Manga of tho Urewera country. March 30 (Tuesday).—Return to Whakatane, and. either take boat, or drive, or motor to Rotorua, via Te Teko.
