I regret Very much to hear that, in addition to being deprived of hor husband and children, shoiis destitute, and her case is indeed hard. I nbto what you say as to its being a matter in which the Government might grant finan-cial"-assistance, and may say 'that it has already been decided to give a subsidy of £ for £ up to £1000 to tho fund raised by tho 1 public for the relief of sufferers by the wrcck../ This subsidy, I am suro you will agree, is a libbral one." . : In connection with tho Penguin disaster, the; Seamen's Mission people have been collecting, funds for-a.memorial to be placed.in tho church.
