AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
.W.A.A.C. CARNIVAL. The final reports of the -various, subcommittees in charge, of'the different departments of the autumn meeting of the W.A.A.C.. on Saturday afternoon show that all the arrangements are well forward. The Auckland team; <n route 'for Dunedin, arrive by the Main .Trunk this ■ afternoon, and will be seen in action, to-morrow, when a good opportunity will bo given of.judging their chances at the championship meeting. G. N. Hill, the New Zealand Marathon winner, .whose appearance, was looked for.with considerable interest, will' probably not be present. Word was received from Auckland oi his selection, and his entry was telegraphed down, but, yesterday, advice was received that he was unable to obtain tire" •necessary, kave,. Endeavours' are still being made to secure his attendance. Other probable members of the Auckland contingent are Bass, the sprinter who' rah second to Henderson in the Now Zealand Championship 100 yards, and won the Wellington Provincial Championship last season, and Wallace, the present champion, hammer-thrower of the Dominion, who is nonliving in' the Auckland district. A. meeting of: the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last evening, Mr. A: Marryatt presiding. There were also present—Messrs.' Ko&s, W. Larkin, W. Coffey, :\V. Pollock, and W. G. Taibot (lion, secretary). ' A letter was received from the Athletic Union of Australasia, notifying that the Queensland Association had written to tho union asking for permission to alter the date of the Austral»sian championships this year from November to August 11 and li. As such an alteration must, according to the rules; be mutually agreed upon, the Australasian Union hud written to the several Australasian' Associations asking whether they aro agreeable . to the alteration.' ■ After some discussion, in which it was stated that August would be too early to allow of New Zealand athletes getting fit for a 'championship meeting, it was decided to inform the Australasian Union that the council could not agree to the dates being altered, and would suggest that the original dates hold good, tho reason being that it is impossible to send a team on. the date suggested, as the team could not be in a fit. state uf training. :. A communication was received from the secretary of the New Zealand Association, Uinstchurch, covering the following resoliiH on: "7, T hat this council, without recognising -he right of the executive in Wellington to assume the functions of a governing body, decides, after careful consideration, that the interests of the sport will be best served by 1 Ii nB m he °n nduct of the 1909 championships to the Otago, Centre on March 20."
